The Ally User Experience group is made up of the highest caliber content strategists, information architects, visual designers, and usability engineers. And we’re looking for a principal design strategist to join our team.

The principal design strategist we’re looking for will be one of their kind, empowered to help mature and operationalize our design thinking methodologies. They’ll be responsible for helping teams work through and articulate our human-centered design process, and constantly be finding new ways to advance our strategic imperatives for UX. They’ll be sharp, ambitious, passionate about problem solving, and able to dig into design details while also zooming out to care for end-to-end customer journeys.

Working closely with content strategy, design ops, and our broader UX leadership team, they’ll provide strategic design direction and jump in to create scalable design structure in ambiguous spaces. They’ll have an outsized impact on how our UX teams do work.

The Work Itself

  • Help operationalize how we solve problems by providing scalable frameworks for working through ambiguity and identifying true customer needs
  • Standardize how we develop, document, and share out UX strategies based on customer insights and research
  • Identify and subsequently drive design standards for core capabilities across our experiences, working back with design ops closely
  • Become an expert on how our experience works across relevant Ally lines of business and customer care channels in order to support enhancements and strategic directions
  • Champion and provide coaching on our human-centered design approach, empowering teams to tell and sell effective stories about their work rooted in customer needs and behaviors
  • Able to move between 1,000-foot experience strategy work and on-the-ground surface design decisions
  • Leverage knowledge of emerging technology to help advance the way we work
  • Support project leaders across all UX teams in executing strategically, and help identify barriers to success and communicate those back to UX leadership
  • Help establish a viable vision for future design experiences
  • Sometimes do a lot of things that are all important at roughly the same time
  • Present to our leadership teams. We believe in an inverted pyramid.

The Skills You Bring

  • 5-7+ years of UX experience with a focus on strategic problem solving
  • Demonstrable skills in some or all of the following across web and mobile experiences: information architecture, content strategy, design systems
  • Experience as a team leader, whether managing directly or as a team leader across large-scale projects
  • Bachelor's in Communications, User Experience, Design, Content and Advertising, Usability, Research, Business Psychology, or comparable experience and a portfolio that demonstrates excellence in design and experience strategy
  • Prior experience prototyping or creating content in Figma or comparable design software
  • Experience collaborating in agile environments is preferred
  • Must be articulate and inspire commitment to a higher standard
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to balance business needs with customer experience
  • Digital portfolio required

Base Pay Range:

Emerging: 110000

Experienced: 145000

Expert: 180000

Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan
